Essential tips to protect your skin this winter

In winter nature slows down like the skin. Yet the skin can not hibernate and has to cope with the lower temperatures, cold winds and indoor central heating. These are really challenging for the skin barrier and causing all sorts of skin concerns, from redness to dryness and sensitivity. What to do? check out our essential tips to protect your skin this winter.

Red cheeks

The skin is dryer in winter and therefore its barrier efficiency is not as good, causing inflammation and redness. Being the cheeks usually drier area of the face, they tend to get redder.

Skin solution:

  • use face oils that help to strengthen the skin barrier
  • take a good omega 3 oil supplement to strengthen the skin from the inside out
  • avoid hot water when cleaning the face because of its drying effects. Luke warm water is much better.

Dry Hands

Hands like the face are exposed to the cold elements and also detergents which constantly strip off its natural moisturising oils.

Skin solutions:

Chapped lips

Lips have no sebaceous glands, so no sebum to protect them. In winter they get really dry and chapped if neglected.

Skin solutions

  • apply a thin layer of honey before going to bed. It help moisturising and repairing the cracks.
  • use an all natural lip balm during the day avoiding petrolatum based products

Rough elbows and heels

Long hot showers are really tempting in winter time, however the hot water dries the skin along with the chlorine present in the water.

Skin solutions

  • Shorter showers using warm water (no more than 10 minutes)
  • A nourishing body moisturiser soon after the shower
  • a mild and moisturising shower gel
