This is a common question, especially for women: can you get rid of stretch marks?
How do stretch marks develop?
Stretch marks develop because of the lack of elasticity on the skin derma or dermis, the place where the skin collagen resides. The collagen acts like a spring making the skin elastic and firm. When stretch marks develop collagen fails so that when the derma is stretched it kind of breaks or snaps giving the typical scar tissue look of stretch marks. In fact stretch marks are scars.
Why stretch marks develop?
Apart from the genetic predisposition, recent scientific research shows that stretch marks are associated with high blood sugar levels. This could explain the loss of elasticity in the skin as sugar is associated with glycation by making collagen brittle. Overall stretch marks are still a mystery and nobody knows why the skin does not repair itself despite its constant renewal.
Can you get rid of stretch marks?
You can improve their appearance especially when the are fresh, when the scar tissue is still red. Key ingredients for that are:
-cocoa butter (it makes stretch marks softer and less noticeable)
-chlorella extract (it stimulates micro circulation reducing their pink appearance)
-lupin extract (it stimulated collagen production helping the skin derma recovering its elasticity)
All of of these natural wonders are in our Cream of Wonders
Other remedies used for stretch marks are microdermabrasion (this only improves the texture of the stretch marks, it does not eliminate them) and laser (it damages stretch marks stimulating the formation of new tissue with an improved effect).
What is the answer?
Prevention is much better than cure:
- a healthy and balanced diet,
- keeping sugar intake low
- using products that support the skin by making it more elastic and firm.
Once stretch marks develop you can improve their appearance when fresh, or for significant improvement you may want to consider laser treatment.
